Most of what we call our personal life is bound by conditioned patterns and routines. These bodily patterns are so ingrained and automatic that they seem to have a life of their own. As such, we are often cut off from the depths and breadth of life, its richness, fullness and meaningfulness. Yet the deeper possibilities are right here, right in the midst of our everyday patterns. For within our repetitive and recurrent patterns, lies a depth dimension, one that is filled with life (energy; vitality; power…) and with significance (imaginal; archetypal; historical…). This deeper realm is often equated with the Soul, the essence, the living quality of Being, which can be sensed, reawakened and renewed. The light of soul is immanent within the body-i.e. it is inherent, indwelling…. Often, however, we have become so inured by our ordinary modes of being that we lose touch with the fuller, richer, more enlivened life of the soul.

These Modules will be presenting and expanding on the experiential practice of Whiolebody Focusing. It incorporates the vital significance of accessing the body’s genius- i.e. in its original sense of a guardian Spirit, one that watches over the individual, household and community. The call to genius is the awakening of the WBF process of reconnecting the body with its “genius,” the protection, guidance and wisdom of its guardian spirit, its implicit awareness of the more, and it’s guiding us toward restoring the life of the soul. Our central metaphor for this WBF journey is one of coming more to life: 1. Recovering consciousness and expanding awareness; 2. Starting to feel more alive- awakening, rousing, stirring of life-force and vital energy; 3. Bringing something more, and deeper into being- plant a seed of new life and birth; 4. Bring back- resurrecting; restoring; reincarnating and 5. Letting appear lifelike- animating; allowing to become more real and natural; dramatizing the body’s story and mythos.

The key aspects in the WBF practice can be described as: staying with the body and letting the body (its Genius) show us the way. Thus we will be exploring and practicing how to unfold and deepen the awareness and richness of each pattern, every movement, gesture, feeling, reaction as containing more life, and more significance- just as they are. There is no need to directly or actively change- as it is the depth and breadth of awareness through our Spirit that will show us the heart and soul of each aspect, how it carries some aspects of the soul, our vital life-force. Through expanding the imaginal, creative, dramatic, and energetic realms, we will learn how to let come to life even the most ingrained, repetitive patterns- and show us their inherent value within themselves.
